The Hauler 1:72 Pz.Kpfw. II Ausf. B photo-etched set is an aftermarket accessory in thin metal for a model of the German light tank. The set is etched to measure for the S-Model kit.

A photo-etched metal fret from the Czech maker Hauler for a plastic model of the German light tank Pz.Kpfw. II in the Ausf. B version, 1:72 scale. It is not a kit: the set completes the S-Model model, which has to be owned.
The Pz.Kpfw. II was a light tank that arose as an interim solution until production of the heavier types got going, and it ended up as one of the most numerous German tanks of the first years of the war. The main armament consisted of a 20 mm autocannon supplemented by a machine gun, and the crew numbered three men. The Ausf. B version is among the early forms and differs from the later ones in details of the chassis and the hull, which is exactly the area where an aftermarket accessory comes into its own.
On a light tank the most sensitive items are the fenders and their brackets, the engine covers, the cooling grilles and the small tool brackets. Injection-molded plastic necessarily makes them thicker than the scale calls for, and with grilles it additionally lacks see-through: a plastic grille is only an engraved surface, whereas an etched one can genuinely be looked through. It is precisely this detail that in 1:72 scale decides most whether a model reads as a scaled-down original or as a toy.
The parts of the model that the photo-etched items replace have to be removed from the plastic first, usually cut off with a scalpel, and the area sanded with fine paper so that the new part seats. Check the fit dry, as metal has nowhere to give. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and go over it with primer. It is glued with cyanoacrylate applied with a pin; an excess of glue on grilles clogs the openings and is then practically impossible to clean out. Fenders on this hardware are often depicted slightly bent or damaged, and brass suits that, because it will keep the shape.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
