The 1:72 RAF 6 Squadron History 1931-2010 decal sheet from Xtradecal is devoted to the markings of No. 6 Squadron RAF across its eight decades.
Responsibility details are not available.
This product is a decal sheet in 1:72 scale, that is an accessory for a plastic kit. The British manufacturer Xtradecal has placed it in a line of squadron sheets that follow one unit of the Royal Air Force across the period given in the name. The particular types of aircraft, the number of schemes and the serial numbers are given on the packaging and in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
For most of the period described, No. 6 Squadron RAF served away from the British Isles, chiefly in the Middle East and North Africa, and in its later phase it moved on to jet equipment. During the Second World War the unit operated, among other things, Hawker Hurricane aircraft in the cannon-armed version for use against ground targets. A squadron sheet therefore covers markedly different types and schemes linked by one unit badge.
With older sheets it pays to check the state of the adhesive before you set to work. Decals harden over time, the film may become brittle and the carrier layer tears while soaking. Take one unimportant marking from the edge of the sheet first, therefore, and try it out. If the film breaks, it helps to spray the sheet with a thin coat of clear varnish from a can, let it dry and only then cut the individual decals out, because the varnish holds the print together.
A decal sheet is an accessory. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
