This is a detail accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The set serves to replace the rigging wires of the Royal Aircraft Factory BE.2c biplane in 1:72 scale with ready-made metal parts. The result is taut, straight and stable rigging, which is hard to achieve with stretched thread or with stretched sprue. The set has to be used together with a matching plastic BE.2c kit in this scale, which it does not replace. The set is intended for the Airfix kit.
The Royal Aircraft Factory BE.2c was a British biplane of the First World War, designed with stability in flight in mind. It was exactly those calm flying qualities that made it a good platform for observation, reconnaissance and photography, while in the fighter role it was at a disadvantage in its day. The machine was also used for night patrols over home territory. A dense net of rigging wires between the wings is a typical feature, and it fundamentally sets the final impression of a model.
Fit the set only once the basic painting and varnishing of the airframe is finished, otherwise you will pull the wires off while you work. Take the parts out carefully and degrease them before gluing, as the metal will otherwise take neither paint nor glue well. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, ideally dosed with the tip of a piece of wire, so that the drop does not spread over the skin. Work bay by bay and keep checking that things are square and parallel, as a mistake can still be put right in the early stages. They can be painted separately before installation with a thin coat over a primer, or after installation with a brush.
The set is an accessory for a kit, which it does not replace. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, check that the set matches your kit.
