This sheet from the anniversary series for the landings is devoted to the heavy weapons of the British Royal Artillery in 1:72 scale. It takes in the Sexton self-propelled howitzer, the American Priest in British service and the tank destroyers designated as Wolverine and Achilles.
The Sexton carried the British 25-pounder field gun on a chassis derived from the Canadian Ram tank and became the standard self-propelled howitzer of the British artillery regiments. The Priest had an American 105mm howitzer, which meant a different supply of ammunition, and the British side therefore replaced it step by step with a type of its own. Wolverine is the designation for the American tank destroyer with a 3-inch gun in an open turret. The Achilles was the same machine re-armed with the British 17-pounder anti-tank gun, recognizable by its longer barrel with a balance weight.
British artillery markings combine small tactical insignia with number panels that have to sit level. It helps to mark a thin guide line on the gloss varnish, which the later matte coat will cover anyway. With the open turrets of the tank destroyers proceed carefully, so that the carrier film does not stick to the inner wall.
