An accessory for a diorama, not a kit of equipment. The set holds eight resin fence panels and nine footings in 1:72 scale and represents the standard PO-3m reinforced concrete fence. The castings are supplied unpainted and unassembled; paints and glue are not included in the package. The panels have a repeating shape, so several sets will build fencing of any length or run all the way around the base of a diorama.
Reinforced concrete fence systems of the PO series were used in eastern Europe to enclose military airfields, barracks, depots and civilian industrial compounds. The principle was always the same: prefabricated panels were seated into concrete footings, which gave a continuous wall with no need to lay bricks or dig foundations. The PO-3m variant is one of the modifications of the series; the individual types differ in the division and the relief of the front face. In period photographs of equipment such a fence is almost always somewhere in the background, which makes it a useful shortcut for a modeler who wants to give a scene a convincing setting.
Before you start, wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, as the mold release agent otherwise reduces how well the paint keys. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter, level the surface with sanding paper and wear respiratory protection while sanding. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); plastic cement will not dissolve resin. Build the fence up on a flat surface and watch that the panels stay vertical. Begin painting with a primer and a light gray base, go on with a dark wash into the joints and down at the ground, a dry brush on the edges and pigments on the lower third of the panels. A few scuffed corners, damp staining and creeping moss will turn a clean casting into concrete that has seen something.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
