An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet T-80BV main battle tank from Trumpeter in the smaller 1:72 scale. It is a compact kit with a lower part count that builds in a welcoming way and suits less experienced modelers as well. The model captures the characteristic outline of the T-80 together with the reactive armor of the BV version.
The T-80 was a Soviet main battle tank taken into service in the 1970s and became known as one of the first production tanks powered by a gas turbine instead of a conventional diesel engine. That gave it outstanding mobility. In the mid-1980s the T-80BV version received sets of reactive armor, which markedly raises its resistance to shaped-charge ammunition. The characteristic blocks of that armor cover the turret and the hull and give the vehicle its typical look.
In 1:72 the vehicle is small, so work with fine tools and take your time deburring the small parts. Finish the running gear and the lower hull, then close the hull up. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement. Lay a primer under the paint and spray with an airbrush. Even in a small scale, fine washes into the gaps between the armor blocks and a light coat of dust pigments on the running gear and the underside will tell and give a realistic finish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
