A masking set for the canopy of the SAAB JA-37 and AJ-37 Viggen in 1:72 scale contains pre-cut templates for a clean sprayed finish on the frames of the single-seat versions of this Swedish aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut masking templates from MH models for the glazing of a model of the single-seat Swedish SAAB Viggen jet in the AJ-37 and JA-37 versions, in 1:72 scale. On this type the canopy has a large area and only a few thin frames, so every inaccuracy shows at once. A pre-cut mask holds a constant width along its whole length and does away with guesswork when cutting tape.
The Viggen is a single-engine combat aircraft with an unconventional aerodynamic layout: a canard foreplane complements the main delta wing. The combination of this configuration with a thrust reverser was chosen because of the requirement for operation from short, improvised runways. The type was built in several specialized versions, the AJ-37 being the strike variant and the JA-37 the fighter variant. Externally they differ only in detail, and the layout of the cockpit and canopy is single-seat on both.
Clean the clear part and lay the masks on dry to check that they fit. Mask the large area of the canopy by fixing the mask in the middle first and then spreading it toward the edges, so that no air bubbles form. Press the edges down with a blunt tool. Spray thin coats and take the masks off shortly after the paint has set. With a very glossy finish it pays to even the transition out with a final coat of varnish.
An accessory for building a model, not a kit. The paints and the model are not included in the package.
