Photo-etched steel seat belts for American naval fighters of the Second World War in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The pilot of an American carrier fighter of the Second World War sat strapped in by a lap belt supplemented with shoulder straps. On a finished model it is the seat with its belts that draws the eye first in an open cockpit, because the version from the base kit is often only suggested in 1:72 scale, or missing altogether.
Photo-etched steel seat belts for American naval fighters of the Second World War in 1:72 scale. Steel holds a shape better than softer materials, so a belt can be folded over the edge of the seat or left hanging freely and it will stay exactly as you set it. The parts are held on the thin sheet by tabs that are cut through only just before fitting.
Work on a hard, smooth surface, separate the parts with a sharp blade and do not tear them off. Shaping can be done with flat-jawed tweezers or the edge of a wooden stick; bend gradually and in small steps. They are bonded with super glue applied in a minute amount, for example with the point of a needle. If you paint the belts, degrease the surface first and apply a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint will chip off. The layout and placing of the belts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The set suits modelers who are building a cockpit with the canopy slid back and want it to stand up to close inspection. Given the size of the parts, tweezers, good light and a steady hand all pay off. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
