Masks for the glazing and two sets of national insignia for the Italian three-engined Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 in 1:72 scale. The cut matches the parts of the Italeri kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 was among the most successful Italian bombers of the Second World War. Its recognition feature is the hump behind the pilots' cockpit, in which the upper defensive position sat, and the mixed construction of a wooden wing and a steel fuselage covered with fabric. In the Mediterranean it made its name mainly as a torpedo carrier, when a pair of torpedoes slung under the fuselage threatened the British convoys between Gibraltar and Malta.
The package deals with the glazing of the pilots' compartment and the side windows from the outside and adds two sets of national insignia. The shapes are laid out for the parts from the Italeri box.
That masking from the inner side is missing here is not an omission. In 1:72 scale the glass is about a tenth of a millimeter thick and the depth of the cockpit is such that the inner surface of the frame can practically no longer be glimpsed even under a magnifier. On a model of the same aircraft twice the size it would be otherwise and an inner mask would pay off. Here it would only add work.
The practical effect is a pleasant one: the most tiresome part of the whole job falls away, that is inserting tiny scraps into the inside of a part with tweezers before the cockpit is glued shut. A single round of masking is left and it can be managed shortly before the final varnish.
This is an accessory for painting; you have to have a kit of the three-engined machine of your own.
