A set of resin engine covers in the late version for the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IXc fighter in 1:72 scale from Quickboost. It is not an airplane model but a set of precisely cast detail parts that replace the engine cowling from the base kit with a more faithful shape matching the late production version.
The Spitfire Mk. IX was a powerful development stage of the famous British fighter, created by fitting the two-stage supercharged Rolls-Royce Merlin 60 series engine. The longer and more powerful engine called for a modified cowling with bulges and ventilation panels, whose shape differed slightly on later aircraft. The resin covers in the late version have the correct outlines and finer surface detail than injected plastic.
Resin parts need more careful preparation: wash them in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue, carefully separate them from the casting block and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); protect your airways while sanding. Check the fit against the fuselage before gluing, fill and sand any gaps, then spray the base color and pick out the panel lines with a fine flowing wash.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
