Turned metal barrels in 1:72 scale for the late configuration of the Spitfire Mk.IXe and Mk.XVIe with rounded fairings. They replace the plastic barrels of the 20 mm cannon and the 12.7 mm machine guns.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire in the Mk.IX and Mk.XVI versions belongs to the late configurations with the Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine. The letter e in the designation refers to the armament: on each wing half these machines carried one 20 mm cannon and one 12.7 mm heavy machine gun. Late production had the barrel fairings on the leading edge rounded, which is one of the details by which the configurations are told apart on a model.
Turned metal barrels in 1:72 scale for the 20 mm cannon and the 12.7 mm machine guns in the version with rounded fairings. A metal barrel has a drilled muzzle and stays straight, whereas a thin plastic part in this scale bends easily even while being removed from the sprue. The extent of the set and the procedure are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
Cut off the plastic barrels and level the cut face square; otherwise the metal parts will each point a different way, which is immediately visible from the front. Try the fit dry and watch that the barrels project the same distance on both wing halves. Glue with a small drop of super glue or with epoxy; cement for polystyrene will not join metal. Degrease the metal with spirit before painting and put down a base coat for metal. It pays to fit the barrels only after the model has been painted, so that masking tape does not pull them out.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
