A photo-etched set for a model of the German armored railcar, the Artilleriewagen car, in 1:72 scale. Prepared for UM kit number 255.
Responsibility details are not available.
German armored railcars served in the Second World War for running along lines in the rear, for securing them and for reconnaissance along the track. A formation consisted of several separate cars with different tasks, and the designation Artilleriewagen belonged to the one that carried the gun armament. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject: angular armor surfaces, riveted joints and a great many small fittings on the outer shell.
The set contains photo-etched parts for 1:72 scale, prepared for UM kit number 255. Photo-etched metal replaces above all those parts that cannot be made thin enough in plastic, so once they are fitted the model loses the coarseness imposed by injection molding.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface rather than by breaking them out, as otherwise they will bend. Run the bends along a sharp edge or in a bending tool and press along the whole length of the groove at once. It is glued with cyanoacrylate applied in a tiny amount, for example with a pin. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts and use a base paint, because an ordinary finish holds badly straight onto bare metal. Work over a light-colored surface, as a part that springs away is very hard to find on a dark one.
The set is for a modeler who has already worked with photo-etched metal or wants to try it on a smaller project. The package contains photo-etched parts only; the kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
