Accessories for the Sturmgeschütz III assault gun in 1:72 scale from Black Dog enrich a model with external gear cast in resin.
Responsibility details are not available.
Resin castings dress a model of the German assault gun in the gear that crews carried on the armor. It is precisely such small things that tell a build out of the box apart from a vehicle that looks as if it has a few weeks in the field behind it. The set is fitted onto a finished model.
The vehicle was built on the chassis of a medium tank and its task was to shoot the infantry a way through by direct fire. Instead of a rotating turret it was given a low fixed superstructure with the gun in limited traverse, which lowered the silhouette and made the vehicle cheaper to produce. The version with the long barrel later proved itself as an anti-tank weapon as well, so the type was produced in high numbers right up to the end of the war and served on every front.
Try the arrangement without glue first. On this kind of vehicle it looks more credible when the boxes and rolled tarpaulins are laid out irregularly rather than symmetrically about the axis. A drop of thicker cyanoacrylate glue will close the seam between the casting and the plastic, and any excess can be trimmed off once it has set. Paint flowed into the shadows gives the gear depth and separates it from the armor beneath it.
