A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard intended for adding detail to the plastic model of the Sukhoi Su-27SM in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and the package does not hold a model of the aircraft — it is an accessory you add to a model you already own. The set is listed in the full form: besides the color-printed self-adhesive photo-etch for the cockpit, that is the instrument panel, the side consoles and the seat belts, it also holds uncolored brass parts for the exterior of the airframe and for the landing gear. Compared with the simplified Zoom range, which Eduard offers alongside it for a number of subjects, it is therefore more extensive; Zoom is limited to color photo-etch for the cockpit on a single fret.
The Su-27SM is an upgraded version of the single-seat heavy twin-engine Su-27 fighter with a blended fuselage, prominent leading edge root extensions and twin vertical tails. The upgrade touched above all the avionics, the displays in the cockpit and the range of external stores. It is the cockpit where the difference from the older form shows most, and where a photo-etched set brings the most.
The color self-adhesive parts are stuck straight onto the plastic, which is best leveled first and relieved of the molded raised detail so that the photo-etch seats over its whole area. Bend the uncolored brass parts in a bending tool or between two blades, never in your fingers — brass cracks easily at the bend. Glue with super glue in the smallest possible amount, carried on the tip of a piece of wire. Degrease the parts before painting and use a primer, because a coat holds badly on bare brass.
The package holds only the photo-etched parts. The model, glue and paints are not part of it.
