The machine SU.W.334 in 1:72 scale is a fictional ground vehicle from the science-fiction range of Black Dog whose designation points to the Eastern system of marking self-propelled guns.
Responsibility details are not available.
Behind the austere designation hides an invented ground machine, not a replica of a particular vehicle. The abbreviation at the start of the name refers to the Eastern way of marking self-propelled artillery vehicles, by which the designer indicates which school of construction the machine is meant to belong to in appearance. The rest is pure visual invention.
Self-propelled guns of Eastern construction were marked by a low front end, a sloped glacis plate and an austere surface with no unnecessary detail. They were made in large series and tended to be derived from tank chassis, which gave them a practical, unadorned look. A machine pitched in this style therefore reads convincingly even with an invented type number – it is legible mainly thanks to its overall proportion.
An austere machine is well served by a uniform base shade enlivened with the oil-dot technique: apply small dots of oil paint to the dry finish and spread them with a clean brush from the top down. Irregular light and dark areas will appear that break up the monotony of large surfaces. Rust marks then only need to be added under the hatches and around the welds.
This is a kit to be assembled by its owner; the painting and any filling are up to you.
