After the Second World War the chassis of the T-34 tank became the basis for a whole range of auxiliary and engineer vehicles. It was an available, mechanically familiar and sufficiently load-bearing chassis, so recovery machines and cranes used in army workshops and with engineer units appeared on it. These machines tend to be interesting for modelers precisely because they practically never appear in the usual kit range and cannot be built without aftermarket parts.
Check the scope of the set before buying against the illustration on the box: with accessories like this it is sometimes a complete conversion and sometimes the refinement of a selected area of the model. Count on sets of this kind possibly calling for changes to the base kit, that is cutting, sanding and adding plastic strip.
Try the parts dry before you reach for the glue. Cut photo-etched parts off with a scalpel on a hard surface and bend them along the etched lines. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and go over it with primer. A crane structure is on view from all sides and tends to be slender, so it pays to let the individual subassemblies cure thoroughly before they are handled further. In a small scale a steel cable is best imitated with thin copper wire or modeling cord.
