The real subject

The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a carrier fighter of the US Navy, that is a machine intended to take off from and land on an aircraft carrier. Its most conspicuous feature was the variable-sweep wing: for take-off and landing it opened out to full span for lift, and as speed rose it folded back. The crew was made up of two airmen seated in tandem, a pilot and a weapon systems officer. The F-14B version differs from the original form in its more powerful turbofan engines. The second part of the name refers to the US Navy aircraft carrier USS George Washington, to which the color finish of the model belongs.

What you get

It is supplied as a finished collector model in 1:72 scale: assembled and in a color finish, with no building, gluing or spraying. It is not a kit, so you need no tools or modeling chemicals for it and it goes into a display case straight from the box.

Placement and care

Finished models stand only limited handling, because the small projecting features on them break off easily. Take the model by the fuselage, therefore, not by the wings or the tail surfaces. Dust it with a soft brush or a blower; the color finish is not made for solvents and cleaning products. A permanent place out of direct sunlight protects the paints from fading.

Who it is for

For collectors of US Navy aviation and for anyone who wants a Tomcat in a display case without building it. The smaller scale keeps the model within the dimensions of an ordinary shelf and goes well with other aircraft of the same size, so it also suits as an addition to a collection in which you already have carrier aircraft.
