About product

US Navy wheel chocks 1:72: a Brengun resin accessory

This is a small accessory to the scene around a model, not an aircraft kit. The Czech maker Brengun supplies a set of resin castings representing the chocks placed under the wheels of US Navy aircraft in the modern period. On a finished model and on a diorama these are the unobtrusive details a viewer notices only second, and that is exactly why the scene looks believable.

Why a scene is not without chocks

A parked aircraft is never simply left standing on its wheels. Chocks stop a machine moving on a sloping or moving surface and in service they are at an aircraft as soon as it has touched down and stopped. A model standing on a base without them looks as static as a display mockup. With chocks at the main landing gear wheels, a scene immediately gains operational logic. The accessory suits any carrier or land-based aircraft in 1:72 scale and is not tied to one type of machine.

Tips for working and painting

The chocks are very small parts, so work over a surface with raised edges or over a cloth: a small casting disappears from a smooth board in a second. Before painting, wash them in warm soapy water so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting block off with a sharp scalpel or a saw and sand the face so that the chock rests on its whole underside. Choose the colors from photographs of the particular ship and period, because they differ between operators and over time; what they have in common is that in service chocks are chipped, dirty and stained from the tires. So after the base color, add a dark wash and fine chipping on the edges. It is bonded with super glue, as ordinary cement for plastic does not work on resin.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building modern carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale.
  • Builders of dioramas with a carrier deck or a parking area.
  • Collectors who want small operational equipment beside a model.
  • Anyone willing to tackle very small resin parts.

This is an accessory set, not a kit. The model, a base, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

They are placed under the wheels of a parked aircraft so that the machine does not roll away. On a model it is a small operational detail that brings a scene to life at once.

If you need a particular number of chocks, check the contents of the package before ordering.

The designation refers to modern US Navy practice, but chocks of this type can be used with most contemporary machines in 1:72 scale.

Use tweezers whose jaws meet properly, work over a cloth and apply the glue on the tip of a wire. Wash the parts and spray them with primer before painting.
