The set belongs among the accessories for a diorama in 1:72 scale. It is exactly the small equipment that turns a model standing on its own into a scene: it gives the viewer a sense of scale, reveals what the place was used for, and fills empty areas that would otherwise look like a bare board. In a small scale a few well-placed pieces are enough, as more will not fit into a scene anyway.
Try the arrangement dry before you reach for the glue. Hold to the principle that things do not stand in a row at equal spacing; groups of two or three pieces, one item laid down or turned, and an empty space left over look more natural than a symmetrical arrangement. A link to the terrain also helps, that is a mark in the soil under the edge of an object or dust heaped up at its foot.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest back gently, so as not to touch its shape. Wash and degrease the surfaces before gluing; cyanoacrylate glue holds the joints. It pays to paint from a base color through the main shade to a dark picking-out of the recesses and a light pass over the edges; at the end add dust at ground level, so that the parts belong to the base.
