The Kh-35 is a Soviet and later Russian anti-ship guided missile. In the NATO code it is listed under the designation AS-20 Kayak. It is subsonic and it approaches its target just above the surface of the sea, so that the defense picks it up as late as possible; its shape is therefore slender, with short wings and tail surfaces at the rear. It is launched from aircraft and helicopters and, in a comparable form, from ships and from coastal launchers as well. The letters U and E in the name distinguish variants of the missile.
This is a model of the missile itself in 1:72 scale, not of an aircraft. It comes into its own in two ways: as external stores completing a model of a carrier aircraft, or as a separate exhibit on a base, where the whole shape is visible. How many parts the package holds, which variants it allows to be built and which markings go with them are given in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The body of the missile is a smooth body of revolution, so every seam and every sanding scratch shows on it. Fill the joint, sand it with progressively finer papers and polish the surface at the end, so that it does not show through the paint. Glue the wings and the tail surfaces against a template, or at least with a rule on the bench; on a slender body any asymmetry is visible at first glance. Wash and degrease the parts before painting and lay down a thin coat of primer, which reveals the joints before the top shade comes into play.
