This resin set from Quickboost, made by Aires, brings faithfully cast exhausts for a model of the Soviet Yakovlev Yak-3 fighter in 1:72 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, replacing the coarser plastic parts with a sharp casting with drilled-out outlets.

The real subject

The Yakovlev Yak-3 was a Soviet single-engine fighter of the Second World War period, valued for its low weight and excellent agility at low and medium altitude. It was powered by a liquid-cooled V12 engine with exhaust pipes along the sides of the forward fuselage, which are among the prominent details of a model.

Tips for working with resin

The exhausts come as a pair, one for each side of the fuselage, so take care to fit them symmetrically. First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove any mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut faces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with plastic cement.
