About product

Oak, autumn color mix for 1:72 and 1:87 (Model Scene)

Lobed oak leaves from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene in a version with an extended palette of autumn colors. The extra colors designation means a more varied blend than in the basic single-color version — several shades meet side by side in the package, so the resulting area does not read as uniform. It is a loose material for 1:72 and 1:87 scale, not a finished tree.

Why the oak in autumn

The oak's autumn is more restrained in color than the maple's — ocher, brown and rusty tones predominate, complemented by yellowing green. The oak moreover turns later than most broadleaf trees and holds its dry leaves well into winter, which makes it a rewarding tree for scenes from November and for transitional scenes between autumn and winter. The extended mix of shades makes it possible to suggest this progression on a single tree.

Application tips

Apply the foliage to the armature in thin layers into a spray adhesive or into thinned PVA glue. Keep the darker shades inside the crown and the lighter ones on top. On terrain, sprinkle irregularly, with regard to where the wind carries the leaves — under the crown, at the feet of walls, into ditches and into the corners of fencing. Oak foliage tends to be stiffer, so it holds a fine relief even after gluing; thinned glue with a drop of dish soap spreads under it better than undiluted glue. Finish the fixing with matte varnish from a greater distance.

Who the material is for

  • builders of autumn and late autumn dioramas
  • modelers of layouts in 1:87 and scenes in 1:72
  • makers of their own trees and bushes
  • anyone interested in faithful fallen leaves on terrain

This is a scenery material, not a kit and not a finished tree. The tree armature, the glue and the terrain substrate are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

That the mix contains a wider range of autumn shades side by side, not one uniform tone.

Yes. The oak's autumn is more restrained, with ocher, brown and rusty tones predominating, while the maple goes more into yellow, orange and red.

No, the package contains only foliage. It contains neither a trunk nor a crown armature.

Partly, yes. The oak holds its dry leaves well into winter, so thin foliage in brown tones is faithful on it even in an early spring scene.
