Photo-etched parts for the Yak-1b in 1:72 scale

A set of photo-etched metal parts from the Czech maker Brengun for the Soviet Yakovlev Yak-1b fighter. It is not a model in its own right - the set serves to refine the details of a kit that injection-molded plastic cannot render faithfully at this scale. Thin metal parts give a model the crispness and scale fidelity that plastic cannot offer.

Use

• separate the parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface
• make the bends with tweezers or a photo-etch bender according to the instructions
• glue with super glue applied in small amounts
• degrease the metal and prime it before painting
• the set is designed for a particular Brengun kit; with other kits of the same type check that the shapes match

For modelers in 1:72 scale who want to take the Yak-1b - one of the main Soviet fighters of the Second World War, in the b version with a cut-down fuselage spine and a bubble canopy - to competition level. Working with photo-etch calls for tweezers, patience and good lighting; the reward is markedly finer detail on the finished model.
