Small leaves with the characteristic lobed shape of an oak leaf from the Czech diorama vegetation manufacturer Model Scene. It is a loose material from the foliage range — the package contains no trunk and no crown armature and nothing is assembled. The size of the leaf is intended for 1:72 and 1:87, that is for dioramas in the smaller scales as well as for railroad layouts.
In the Central European landscape the oak is the typical solitary tree — it grows on field margins, by wayside chapels, at the edges of fields and along tracks, where it forms a massive broad crown. Its leaf is recognizable even in a small scale precisely because of the lobed outline, so foliage made from this material reads differently from anonymous scatter. The green summer version matches the full growing season, when an oak has a rich dark, rather matte green.
Coat the tree armature with a spray adhesive or thinned PVA glue and sprinkle the foliage on from a dish, shaking the excess back. Work in layers and let the glue go tacky between them — the crown then holds its shape and does not form clumps. On terrain, apply thinned PVA glue with a drop of dish soap so that the foliage spreads evenly. An oak crown tends to be denser and more compact than a maple's, so you can allow a somewhat heavier application. Mixing one darker shade into the green helps suggest the shadow inside the crown.
This is a scenery material, not a kit and not a finished tree. The tree armature, the glue and the terrain substrate are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
