35ml Starship Wash

AMMO Starship Wash - enamel wash, 35 ml

A ready-made weathering wash from AMMO (Mig Jimenez) in a 35 ml bottle. It is an enamel (solvent-based) product, not a water-thinnable acrylic - its chemistry follows the enamel range and it is thinned with enamel thinner or mineral spirits. A wash is a thin tinted glaze that, once applied, flows into recesses, panel gaps and around detail and so brings out the volume and relief of the surface. The shade is tuned for spacecraft and science fiction subjects, but it serves aircraft and military vehicles well too.

Use

• Apply it over a varnished, thoroughly dried base - enamel thinner could attack fresh enamel paint under the wash, so seal the surface with varnish first.
• Spread the wash over the surface or run it into the detail on purpose; let it wick into the recesses.
• Wipe the excess off with a clean brush or a cloth lightly moistened with enamel thinner (or mineral spirits) - draw your strokes in the direction of the run-off.
• Let the wash dry completely before the next weathering step, ideally for 24 hours.
