A scriber with an edge 3 mm wide in sintered carbide — the widest variant in the Border Model line of carbide scribers. The three-millimeter edge comes into its own where a fine scriber is not enough: on the pronounced surface detail of models in large scales, wide grooves, the gaps of service hatches or when taking material off over an area. The carbide meanwhile holds its edge even in coarser work, in which a steel tool would quickly go.
Even with a wide edge the principle of gradual work applies: guide the tool along a firm guide and deepen the groove with several light strokes. A wide edge takes more material off, so sensitive guiding is all the more important — it pays to try a few strokes on a leftover frame from a kit. Burrs left after scribing are smoothed away by fine abrasive paper or a polishing sponge.
For modelers building hardware, aircraft and ships in larger scales and for anyone who needs to create more pronounced surface detail alongside fine lines. Combined with the narrower widths from the same line it covers the complete range of scribing from a hairline to a wide groove.
A sharp tool — keep it out of the reach of children, guide the cut away from your hand and do not use the tool for leverage. Sintered carbide is hard but brittle; a fall onto a hard floor can chip the edge.
