This is a set of five deep blue screens accompanied by five bases. A screen measures ten by two and a half centimeters, a base ten by two centimeters and the material is two and a half millimeters thick. It is therefore a low, long partition which is stood in a row on a table and forms a continuous line of color.
Elements like this are used in board and tabletop games as a marker of a force field, a shield or an active barrier a character must not cross. Blue is the most usual choice for this purpose, because it stands apart from the earthy tones of the terrain and is legible even from the other side of the table. Five pieces are enough to close off a whole corridor or to mark out the boundary of a zone around the objective being played for.
The bases are supplied separately, so the screens are assembled before a game and taken apart again into a flat box afterwards. The surface is smooth and will stand being wiped with a damp cloth; solvent-based paints and aggressive cleaners, on the other hand, are better avoided, because the colored material can go dull. If the assembly is meant to look like part of a diorama, the bases can be flocked and painted afterwards so that they blend in with the ground.
The dimensions of the screens are chosen so that they can be combined with further pieces of the same family and build a longer or higher barrier according to the needs of a particular game. Because the bases are separate, the order of the elements can be rearranged at any time and the layout of the table adapted to how the game is developing.
