Note - this is NOT a whole truck. It is a plastic kit of a tipping semi-trailer in 1:24 scale from Italeri. The tractor unit is not included in the package - a semi-trailer is a towed vehicle that is pulled by a tractor unit, and that has to be obtained separately. Italeri has an extensive range of tractor units and semi-trailers in 1:24 scale, so this kit is a typical accessory for a tractor unit you already have (or will buy) - you change the semi-trailer and you have a new rig. The assembled semi-trailer measures 37 cm according to the manufacturer, so even the towed vehicle alone is a properly large model; the whole rig with a tractor unit then takes up a lot of room. The package contains a three-axle chassis, wheels with tires and a sheet of decals.
A tipping semi-trailer is a towed vehicle for carrying bulk materials - soil, gravel and construction rubble. It is used on building sites, in quarries and in earthworks, where it has to move over unpaved ground as well, which is why it stands on a sturdy steel frame and three axles. The body is tipped by a hydraulic lifting mechanism and the load falls out through the rear gate. The structure also includes a system for covering the body, which prevents the loss of material in transit. The model has the tipping mechanism and the opening rear gate reproduced.
Start the build with the frame and the axles - before you close the structure you can reach all the details of the chassis. Use a thin cement for plastic. On the large smooth surfaces of the body a filler primer and an airbrush pay off; brush painting by hand practically always gives such a large area away. The most interesting part is the weathering: construction equipment is a working tool, not a display toy - a dark wash into the welds and the frame, chipped metal on the edges of the body and above all pigments for mud and dust effects on the wheels, the fenders and the underside of the chassis. Anchor the decals with a softener, so that they settle into the pressings in the sheet metal.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The tractor unit, glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
