This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the famous Mercedes-Benz 300 SL sports coupe with its characteristic upward-opening doors, the gullwing doors, in 1:24 scale. The manufacturer is Italeri. The package contains plastic sprues, clear parts for the glazing and decal sheets; the model is glued and painted.
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL appeared in the middle of the 1950s and became an icon of automotive design. The abbreviation SL stands for Sport Leicht, that is sporting and light. The car was built on a tubular space frame, with an inline six at the front and rear-wheel drive. The famous upward-opening doors came about because of the high sills of the frame and gave the car its unmistakable look.
We recommend spraying the body with an airbrush over a primer and finishing it with a gloss clear coat, which shows best on a sports coupe. The chrome items and the trim call for clean work, and the decals should go onto a gloss base. It pays to assemble and paint the engine bay and the interior before you close up the body.
