An injection-molded plastic kit of a medium transport helicopter in 1:32 scale from the German brand Revell. The manufacturer gives 160 parts, a fuselage length of around 45 cm, a rotor diameter of 471 mm, difficulty level 5 and a recommended age from 13 years. The package holds two decal sheets: one for a British machine and one for the German variant of the federal border guard, to which a radar nose and inflatable floats also belong. The molds come from the original Matchbox production and the instruction sheet is pictorial and multilingual.
The SA 330 Puma is a French twin-engine transport helicopter with Turbomeca Turmo turbine engines. The British selected the type in 1967 and Westland assembled the machines for the RAF; the first examples arrived in January 1971 and in June of the same year No. 33 Squadron formed at Odiham. Under the designation Puma HC Mk 1 the machine carried up to sixteen troops besides the crew and became the tactical workhorse of British airborne operations. Later the machines went through an extensive modernization to the HC.2 standard with new avionics and engines.
With older molds it pays to check things dry: pull the joints of the fuselage halves and the seating of the cabin together with tape and glue them with liquid cement for plastic in short sections. Deal with the cabin interior and the glazing before you close the fuselage up, and mask the glazing with liquid mask. Spray a primer, then the top shade with an airbrush, and watch out for the rotor head, where the moving parts easily glue together. Bring out the panel lines with a thinned wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
