April 1945 was the closing phase of the fighting of the Second World War in Europe; the battle for Berlin took place in a densely built-up urban setting, where the movement of vehicles was tied to streets, crossroads and rubble. That setting also shapes the look of a modeling scene: narrow passages, rubble, damaged facades and vehicles standing among them.
With a diorama set it pays to plan the scene before you start gluing. Lay out the base, the placement of the vehicles and the figures and build accordingly — some parts are better painted separately and fitted only onto a finished base. Do the running gear and the interior before closing the body, or you will not be able to reach them. Paint with an airbrush from a darker base toward lighter areas, so that depth appears. Build the weathering in layers: a dark wash into the recesses, fine shading of the panels, pigments for dust and mud working from the bottom up. Paint the figures separately and finish the faces and hands with a fine brush. Finally bring the whole scene together with matte varnish, so that the vehicles, the figures and the base hold the same reflection of light.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
