1:35 Bergepanther with Pz.Kpfw.IV Turret from the Ukrainian brand ICM is a kit of a recovery vehicle onto whose hull a tank turret was seated. An unusual command vehicle arose in this way.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of 2024 made up of over four hundred parts. It captures a field conversion of a recovery vehicle of the kind that arose with a single unit: instead of the usual open hull the vehicle carries a complete tank turret. For a collector of German hardware it is a rewarding piece, because it joins two well-known machines into a whole that is not seen in ordinary production.
The Bergepanther recovery vehicle designated Sd.Kfz. 179 was based on the chassis of the Panther medium tank and served for towing damaged vehicles off the battlefield. One of the conversions arose with the 653rd heavy anti-tank battalion, where a turret from a Pz.Kpfw.IV was seated on the hull of a recovery machine. The vehicle thereby gained an armored superstructure and armament and was used as a command vehicle. It remained at a very few pieces, which makes it an interesting modeling subject.
The extensive running gear of the Panther with its interleaved road wheels calls for following the instructions and for letting the whole assembly cure before you load it with the tracks. Finish the inside of the hull and the lower parts before the upper plate closes off access. Lead the finish from a dark shade toward brightened areas. On a recovery machine the dirt of service looks natural: greasy smears around the towing eyes, chipped paint on the surfaces that are walked on and light dust on the lower parts.
A model comes out of the box only through your own work: the parts have to be separated, glued and sprayed, as the manufacturer does not supply a finished vehicle.
