Photo-etched metal in 1:35 for the American M10 tank destroyer adds thin rims, screens and small fittings to a model, which an injection mold cannot manage.
Responsibility details are not available.
This photo-etched set from Royal Model gives a plastic model of the American M10 tank destroyer the particulars that cannot come out of a mold: thin rims, screens, loops and fine fittings. The set is cut for the Academy kit; the brand also lists a version for the plastic base from another firm, so take care which of them you are choosing.
The 3-inch M10 self-propelled gun arose on a chassis derived from the Sherman. The sloped thin armor and the open pentagonal turret with a counterweight at the rear were to ensure speed and a good view, not resistance; the crew relied on firing first. It took part in the fighting from 1943 in Tunisia and in Italy, later in Normandy. The British rearmed the machine with a more powerful gun and designated it the Achilles. The open roof was later covered by field improvisations by the crews, from tarpaulins to mesh against hand grenades.
Nip the small components out with a scalpel on a hard surface; nippers will bend the sheet. The open turret means that the inside will be visible, so paint the inner surfaces before you close the assembly up. Metal springs back slightly after bending, so count on it and bend a little further.
The kit itself and glues are not supplied.
