ICM 1:35 Sikorsky S-64E Skycrane (firefighting) is an injection-molded plastic kit of the flying crane, a helicopter without a conventional fuselage.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the heavy Sikorsky S-64E Skycrane helicopter in the firefighting configuration, in 1:35 scale from ICM. The large 1:35 scale makes the model an unusually big and striking piece. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The S-64 Skycrane is a so-called flying crane, a helicopter without a conventional enclosed fuselage, made up of only a load-bearing spine and a cabin, which carries its load slung beneath it. It is the civilian version of the military heavy helicopter CH-54 Tarhe. It has a six-blade main rotor and two Pratt & Whitney engines; the operator seat faces aft so that the load below the machine can be watched during lifting. The firefighting version carries a huge water tank and fights large forest fires. Besides firefighting, these machines handle construction work, logging and the carriage of heavy loads all over the world.
The glazed cabin has several clear parts, and it pays to mask them and keep them clean. The blades of the six-blade rotor have to be straight and symmetrical, and the rotor head is made up of many small parts. Work with thin cement for plastic, lay down a primer and spray with an airbrush. A firefighting machine wears a bold civilian finish (red, yellow); once the decals are on a gloss coat, you can add soot and traces of fire with a wash and pigments. In a display case the model comes into its own with the rotors turned.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
