A kit of the Unimog S 404 light off-road truck from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. The model belongs to a wider line in which ICM offers the Unimog in several body versions, so a whole group of vehicles on a common chassis can be built. Which particular body version the box contains is shown by the illustration on the packaging.
The Mercedes-Benz Unimog S 404 is an off-road vehicle with drive to both axles, portal axles and a large ground clearance. It was powered by a gasoline six-cylinder engine, which was a rather unusual step among military trucks of the day but gave the vehicle refined running and easy starting. The type was built from the mid-1950s for two decades, served with a number of European armies and with rescue and utility services, and to this day it is among the sought-after classics. A short wheelbase, long suspension travel and reduction gearing made the vehicle reliable off hard roads as well.
Finish the frame with the axles and engine first, and only then fit the cab and the body. The cab and the rear section are easier to paint separately, especially if you plan a different shade for the cargo bed. A filler primer, a unifying base shade and a light lightening of the horizontal surfaces all pay off. Weathering is rewarding on this type: a dark wash in the panel lines, dust on the fenders and mud on the tires and in the wheel arches instantly give the vehicle scale and weight.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
