This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale represents the German V3000S/SSM Maultier halftrack truck in the version with the simplified standardized cab, which German terminology calls the Einheitsfahrerhaus. The manufacturer is the Ukrainian brand ICM, which has long focused on German and Soviet equipment of both world wars.
The Maultier designation was carried by a group of German trucks whose rear axle was replaced by a tracked bogie in the second half of the war. The vehicles thus gained considerably better mobility in the mud and snow of the Eastern Front, for which they paid with lower speed and higher fuel consumption. The V3000S type was a three-ton truck of German production and its halftrack version served for supply, for towing and as a carrier for bodies. The Einheitsfahrerhaus cab was an economical standardized design introduced at the end of the war, when both steel and production time were being saved.
With halftrack vehicles it pays to assemble and paint the running gear before the body is closed up and the cab attached, otherwise it is hard to reach later. It is a good idea to paint the cab on its own and to fit it only once the interior is finished. For the final finishing touches, a wash in the engraving, dust pigments on the fenders and the underside and fine scuffs on the door edges and the steps all suit well. A base in a warmer shade with a thin glaze will set the wooden parts of the body apart.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
