An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Bell AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian maker ICM, completed with parts of the American steel landing mat M8A1. The package comprises a set of aircraft weapons for various underwing loads and a sheet of markings for several forms of the Cobra, so a small scene of a field station can easily be built from the model.
The AH-1G Cobra was the first specialized attack helicopter and one of the symbols of the war in Vietnam; it entered combat at the turn of the sixties. The slender fuselage with its crew in tandem carried a turret with rapid-fire armament in the nose and rocket pods and weapon containers on the stub wings. The pierced steel planking (PSP) mats designated M8A1 were used by engineer units of the US Army to firm up soft terrain; they were joined into a surface and created improvised airfield and handling areas.
It is a good idea to mask the glazing of the cockpit; assemble and paint the interior and the rotor head before closing the fuselage up. Paint the helicopter with an airbrush over a primer, and emphasize service wear, exhaust traces and chipped paint with a wash and a dry brush. Paint the M8A1 matting metallic and emphasize it with rust and dusting for a faithful look of a field surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
