The thin photo-etched sheet Ammunition Belts in 1:48 scale replaces simplified machine-gun ammunition belts on models of equipment.
Responsibility details are not available.
This photo-etched set from the Royal Model brand gives machine guns the belts that in a base kit tend to be only suggested. At forty-eighth the difference between a rigid plastic part and a pliable metal strip can be seen at first glance.
A real belt sags under its own weight, hangs from the feed and curls into its box. An injection mold cannot manage that, because it needs draft angles and a certain minimum wall thickness. Metal, by contrast, can be shaped into any curve and after painting it looks like a chain of individual rounds. The set is therefore one of the simplest ways to raise the level of a model's machine-gun armament.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife on a firm surface and never tear them out. A round handle or a wooden stick will manage the shaping: the strip is drawn carefully over it and gains a smooth curve. Before painting it is essential to degrease the sheet and use a primer meant for metal. Brass is most often darkened toward a burnt metal shade, and the individual rounds then stand out from a brass tone drawn on dry and a trace of a dark shade in the shadows. Keep the offcuts of the fret, as thin strips of metal come in useful for repairs and improvised additions elsewhere on a model.
The sheet is supplied unpainted and flat.
