An injection-molded plastic kit of the American medium bomber Martin B-26 Marauder in 1:48 scale from ICM, from modern tooling. The boxing represents the B-26C-45, that is a production combat machine from the Omaha plant (the letter C marks the second production plant; otherwise the aircraft was practically identical to the B version). The C-45 was the most numerously built production block of the Marauder. The kit has a richly broken down interior, detailed engines and bomb bay, engraved panel lines and decals for USAAF combat machines. The wingspan of the finished model is about 45 cm.
Choosing between two Marauders from ICM? This one is an ordinary combat machine from production. Alongside it there is a Last Marauder boxing, which is instead one particular historic aircraft, the very last Marauder built, of the B-26G version, from April 1945. If you want to build a typical operational bomber with combat markings, reach for this kit; if you want to mark the end of production of a legend, choose the Last Marauder.
The Martin B-26 Marauder was a fast twin-engine medium bomber with a small, highly loaded wing. That is exactly why it had a high landing speed and caused accidents in early training; it earned nicknames such as widowmaker and crews were afraid of it at first. The reality in the end looked entirely different: after training was improved and the airframe modified (a larger wing and tail surfaces), the Marauder had one of the lowest combat loss rates of all American bombers in Europe, less than half a percent of losses per combat sortie. It is one of the best examples of a reputation parting ways with actual performance.
Glue with thin cement for plastic. Finish and paint the interior and the engines before you close the fuselage and the engine nacelles. Because of the size, hold the fuselage and the wings in clamps while they dry and keep trying the fit dry. Do not forget the nose weight; the aircraft has nose gear. Use a base color (primer), then spray with an airbrush; for unpainted aluminum surfaces a smoothly polished base pays off. Lay down a gloss coat under the decals, go over it with a flat one once dry and bring out the panel lines with a darker wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
