The rendition 1:48 F-86A Sabre Weighted wheels set type 2 from Clear Prop Models brings wheels with a flattened contact area, this time under the second type designation.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation type 2 distinguishes this item from the sister set listed as type 1. Both have a flattened lower part of the tire and both are intended for a model of the first production Sabre, but they differ in a rendition that the maker distinguishes by a number. Anyone building a particular machine from a photograph will appreciate having a choice; anyone building freely can reach for either of them.
The original design of the future Sabre counted on a straight wing. Only after the German aerodynamic research had been evaluated did the design team decide to move to swept surfaces, which pushed the type into an entirely different performance category. In September 1948 the aircraft broke the world speed record and a year later it entered service with the squadrons. An engine of the J47 series gave it the performance with which it made its mark over the following decade in a number of allied countries, from Canada to Japan.
The hub and the tire are best painted separately; rubber calls for a matte surface, whereas the metal part can take a light satin. A weakly thinned dark paint in the grooves will unify the transitions. Special attention is deserved by the lower flat spot, where the wear shows most.
The delivery contains neither the aircraft nor paints.
