The kit from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM captures the Firebee jet target drone in the early version, which the US Navy listed as the KDA-1 and the US Air Force as the Q-2A. According to the name, a ground transport trailer is also part of the package, which makes it possible to build the model as a complete small scene rather than just an aircraft on a stand on its own. This is an injection-molded plastic kit. Please check the number of parts, the number of color schemes and the contents of the decal sheet against the enclosed instructions.
The Firebee is among the most widespread target drones of the postwar era. It was a small unmanned jet aircraft that served to train fighter crews and anti-aircraft system operators in firing at a moving aerial target. It was launched from a ground launcher with a booster rocket motor or released from a carrier aircraft, and after the flight it came back by parachute and could be used again. The type went through a long line of development stages and many years of service.
The fuselage is smooth and aerodynamically clean, so it pays to sand and polish the joints carefully, otherwise they will show under a gloss finish. The conspicuous marking areas of target machines are sprayed last and masked with masking tape or with ready-made masks. Apply a gloss coat before the decals so that no silvering appears. Build and paint the trailer separately; dust and mud weathering on it makes a pleasant contrast with the clean finish of the aircraft.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
