An injection-molded plastic kit from the Ukrainian maker ICM in 1:48 scale. The point of this release is clear: in one box you get the basic transport version UH-60A and with it three crew figures, so you do not have to hunt for two separate products. The helicopter is built from a little under three hundred parts, and the figures have their own parts on top of that; a masking template for the glazing is in the package as well. With the crew in the cabin you get a practically finished diorama scene with no further buying. Watch out for confusion: this is not a special operations machine. If you are looking for the 160th Regiment version with a radar and a FLIR sensor, that is the ICM MH-60L Black Hawk - a different box, different equipment and no figures.
The UH-60 Black Hawk is an American multipurpose transport helicopter that replaced the legendary UH-1 Huey in army service. The designation UH stands for utility helicopter - that is a machine for carrying troops and materiel, medical evacuation and support, not a specialized attack or special operations helicopter. The UH-60A is the original production version with which the Black Hawk entered service. Compared with the Huey it brought markedly higher toughness, two turboshaft engines, a modern four-blade rotor and better structural survivability. A typical crew consists of two pilots and a crew member responsible for the cargo and the door gun.
Conventional injection-molded plastic - glue it with a thin cement for polystyrene. Finish and paint the interior of the cargo compartment and the cockpit before the fuselage is closed; with the side doors open the interior and the figures will be clearly visible, so the detail pays off. Mask the glazing with the enclosed template. Seat belts are not in the kit - anyone who wants perfect seats can reach for an aftermarket photo-etched belt set. Paint the figures separately, the faces and flight suits in shades with discreet drybrushed highlights. The base color of the machine is a dark matte army green - an airbrush, gloss varnish under the decals, a matte overcoat, a panel wash and dust pigments on the landing gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
