An injection-molded plastic kit of the Canadian twin-engined turboprop DHC-6 Twin Otter in 1:72 scale from Revell. This is a civil subject, which turns up rarely among model releases — most makers stick to military equipment.
The Twin Otter is a twin-engined turboprop designed by de Havilland Canada for very short takeoff and landing. It has a high wing with struts, fixed landing gear and a boxy, unfaired structure with no regard for looks — everything is subordinated to getting the machine off a short, unpaved strip. That is exactly why it became the typical aircraft of remote regions: it is operated in the Arctic, in mountain areas, in the jungle and on small island routes. Many machines have skis or floats instead of wheels. Production has run, with a break, from the 1960s to this day.
The high wing with struts has to be seated against a jig; uneven dihedral is conspicuous on a high-wing monoplane. Finish and paint the cabin interior before you close up the fuselage — on a civil aircraft it is visible through the large windows. A civil gloss finish will reveal every irregularity, so after filling, spray the surface with a filler primer and look it over under a side light. Settle the large airline decals over a gloss base and help them along with a decal softener.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
