Revell Aqua Color 332 — Luminous Red, silk (18 ml)

A brilliant signal red from the acrylic Aqua Color range by Revell. The paint is thinnable with water, the bottle holds 18 ml and according to the manufacturer it is a shade with a silk (silk matte) finish, which follows the logic of the numbering — in Revell numbering the 3xx series is silk matte. The shade corresponds to RAL 3026. This is a modeling paint, not a kit.

What luminous means, read before you buy

RAL 3026 belongs among the fluorescent (signal) shades — it is a brilliant red of the daylight-effect type, not an ordinary opaque red. That has two practical consequences worth knowing in advance: the covering power is weaker and the shade comes into its own only over a white (light) surface. Over dark plastic or a dark undercoat the result stays dirty and murky. Apply the paint over a white base and in several thin coats. The manufacturer also states that fluorescent shades are not mixed with the other paints of the range — mixing them costs you the brilliant effect.

Mind the range: Revell offers the same shade number in an enamel (solvent-based) version as well, which is a separate product. That one is thinned with Color Mix, has a different volume and must not be confused with this acrylic paint.

Use

• Signal and warning surfaces — rescue and fire service vehicles, warning stripes, targets and markings.
• Brilliant elements on racing vehicles, car bodies, aircraft and accessories, where the color is meant to shout.
• Always over a white surface — without a white base the shade will neither stand out nor cover.
• A silk finish stands between matte and gloss; under decals, coat the area with a gloss clear finish instead.
• It is applied with a brush as well as an airbrush and thinned with water or Aqua Color Mix.

Who the paint is for

For modelers who need a truly striking signal red — from fire and rescue vehicles to warning and racing elements. It also suits those who work exclusively with acrylics: the paint has only a slight odor, is not flammable and cleans up with water. Because of its weaker covering power we recommend it rather to more experienced builders, or always in combination with a white base.
