The AT-PL-PRO pen for accenting panel lines

This tool from the DSPIAE brand takes the place of the brush supplied in bottles of panel line accent. The body is machined from aluminum alloy into a hexagon, so the pen does not roll off the bench and is held more firmly. The tip is of stainless steel and, according to the manufacturer, three spares come with it in the package.

How to work with it

• dip the tip into the liquid so that it covers the opening near the point
• wipe the surplus off against the neck of the bottle
• place the point at the start of the scribed line and press lightly
• the color runs along the groove by itself through capillary action; you only move the pen
• once dry, wipe the overflow off with a cotton swab dampened with the thinner of that line

What it works with

The pen takes enamel, acrylic and oil accents alike, because it contains no color of its own and mixes none. Anyone moving over from a brush will appreciate above all that the liquid does not stay in a wide trace on the surface around the groove and does not then have to be laboriously wiped away. Thinner, accent color and a model are not part of the delivery.

It suits builders of aircraft and of contemporary vehicles with a dense network of panel joints, collectors of robot models and anyone who cannot keep a clean line with a brush. The hexagonal body also solves a small annoyance everyone knows: a round pen put down on a sloping bench top ends up on the floor, and a bent point no longer makes a clean trace.

Safety and care

Thinners and accent colors tend to be flammable and irritant, so work with them in a ventilated room and out of the reach of children. Close the bottle after the work, wipe the tip dry and do not leave dried color in it.
