Acrylic Bases - Round 80 mm CLEAR

Acrylic bases, round 80 mm, clear (Green Stuff World)

A clear acrylic base 80 mm in diameter serves as a base for a figure, a model or a terrain piece. Transparent material has two practical advantages over opaque plastic: it visually disappears, so it does not compete with the model, and it allows effects that are impossible with an opaque base, that is flying and hovering figures on a transparent stand, a water surface lit from below, or a transparent gaming base through which the game board can be seen. Green Stuff World is a Spanish maker of modeling chemicals, aids and accessories. The 80 mm diameter is one of the larger sizes used for monsters, vehicles and multi-figure groups.

Use

• Peel the protective film off before gluing, if one is stuck to the acrylic, and degrease the surface.
• Use gel cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy adhesive for gluing; ordinary cement for polystyrene will not bond acrylic.
• Beware of cyanoacrylate fumes, which can fog clear acrylic; glue in a well-ventilated space and keep the dose small.
• If you want to keep the base transparent, mask it while spraying the model, as acrylic is hard to clear of overspray.
• For a textured surface, modeling putty can be applied to the base, deliberately sacrificing transparency over part of the area only.

Who it is for

The bases will be appreciated by wargamers who standardize an army on one type of base, by figure collectors looking for an unobtrusive way to mount a model, and by modelers who want a display piece to emphasize the model rather than what it stands on. The larger 80 mm diameter suits bulky figures, small vehicles and scenic groups with several figures.

This is a modeling accessory, not a model. A figure, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
