A cream yellow for highlights

The shade named after an ice cream sundae lies on the border between a light yellow and a warm ivory. It is not a saturated color reached for because of a full surface - its place is one level up, where light breaks on a yellow surface. Applied in a thin layer on the crown of a helmet, on the upper edge of a fender or on the fold of a cloak, it creates the impression that the sun is shining on the model from above.

Brightening without gray

The most common mistake when brightening yellow surfaces is mixing in white. That pulls the yellow toward the cold and the color goes gray. A cream tone settles the same thing and yet stays warm, so the transition between the base yellow and the highlight looks natural. It does the same service on sand and straw materials, on fur and everywhere a surface is to be brightened but not white.

Package and preparation

The paint is in a dropper bottle of seventeen milliliters. Inside lies a metal ball whose job is to get the pigment moving when shaken, as it settles at the bottom over time - which is why the bottle is shaken briefly before every use. The dropper doses drop by drop, so a ratio for mixing can be repeated next time too. It is thinned with water and once dry a smooth matte surface remains.

The shade belongs to a wider range intended for miniatures, vehicles and scenery, which can be added to piece by piece. Anyone building a palette gradually will appreciate not having to get a whole set for the sake of a single color. Light tones are moreover used up more slowly than base shades for areas, so one bottle usually lasts across several builds.
