A dark wine red with a leaning toward purple. It serves as the shadow partner of brighter reds and as a color for leather and fabric in its own right. 17 ml.

Sangria Red is a darkened red with a hint of a purple undertone, that is exactly what bright red surfaces lack in shadow. Mixing red with black is a dead end: a grayish, dead tone arises. A dark red shade, by contrast, keeps the color even in the deepest place of a fold and the surface stays legible.
On its own it serves well on tanned leather, on belts and holsters, on dark velvet fabrics, on red wine in miniature bottles and on dried blood, where a drop of brown is worth mixing in. In scale modeling the shade finds use on old, sun-faded red finishes of railroad cars and farm machinery.
It comes out best paired with a brighter red tone of the same range. The procedure is simple: lay the whole surface with this dark shade, then draw the edges and raised places out with a lighter red and even the transition out with a glaze. That avoids the overpainting that with red usually ends in an uneven surface. Anyone working with a dry brush will appreciate that a matte surface picks up even a very small amount of lighter paint on the edges.
