Zombie Flesh is a flesh tone pulled toward green, that is exactly what a character needs if it is to look as though its blood circulation stopped working long ago. It is not the poisonous green of a monster but pale, slightly greenish skin that keeps the definition of flesh readable. Besides classic zombies it suits ghouls, drowned men, villagers struck by plague and sci-fi alien races as well.
It looks best when it is not laid down on its own. Lay it as the middle tone, run a brown-violet shade into the recesses and pull out the highest places, that is the cheekbones, the knuckles and the bridge of the nose, with a bone or a light flesh shade. The matte drying helps that build-up, because no artificial highlights appear on the skin that would break the illusion.
The shade can be shifted further: a drop of yellow turns it into a sickly yellow, a drop of gray into a cadaverous pallor. That is exactly why it becomes the starting point in a palette for a whole group of unhealthy flesh tones.
Undead characters rarely get by with a single tone. When you come to build a whole batch, count on fresh wounds, bruises and exposed muscle calling for colors of their own; this skin holds them together as a shared base.
