AK interactive AII Green — acrylic paint 17 ml

A shade from the aircraft range of acrylic paints from the Spanish brand AK interactive. It is a water-thinnable acrylic paint in a bottle of 17 ml with a satin, that is semi-matte, finish. AII Green belongs to the palette of the Soviet Air Force of the late 1930s and the early 1940s and matches the green finish of the upper surfaces of the airframe. The range is mixed with scale reduction in mind, so on a model the shade looks slightly lighter than the real finish.

Chemistry and thinning

This is a water-based acrylic, not an enamel and not a lacquer — that is the key point for choosing a thinner. The paint is thinned with the acrylic thinner of the same brand, or with water; solvent thinners meant for enamels or lacquers do not belong in it and would curdle the finish. The consistency is tailored directly to an airbrush, so further thinning is usually not needed in the airbrush. With a brush it is applied in thin coats, which have decent covering power. It becomes tacky quickly, and full curing of the finish takes about a day.
